THE WINERY

Viña Lanciano

WINEMAKING

Winemaking at LAN follows a principle: extreme respect for our grapes, preserving the vineyard’s distinctive features in each of the stages of fermentation and ageing, both in the barrel and in the bottle. We manage each tank individually, based on the destination it has been assigned. Such respect implies preparation, manual selection, creativity, tradition and modernity -all these elements play a part in endeavour to outdue ourselves every day.

A painstaking oak selection along with malolactic fermentation in new barrels transform our estate’s musts into pleasant, unctuous and round wines.

AGEING

During the ageing process, we re-instill our identity onto each wine separately with the use of different kinds of oak as well as with hybrid barrels, a type of cask pioneered by the winery. At Bodegas LAN we are committed to continuing the meticulous work to test, improve and research each stage of the production process.

At LAN we work with the world’s best coopers when it comes to ageing our wines. The oak we use brings a unique and unmistakeable identity to our range. French, American, Russian and hybrid barrels (American staves and French oak heads built in the same barrel) are chosen and renewed periodically in order for our wines to get the best out of each type of wood.

sala de barricas
barrica

French oak
Sourced from various forests in central France (Allier, Tronçais, Jupille…) its characteristic aromas are soft vanilla, clove and chocolate.

American oak
Coming from Ohio and Missouri, its aromas remind of cocoa and aromatic herbs.

Russian oak
From the Caucasus and the Adyghe Republic, this type of oak has less fragrance and is more respectful to the wine.

Hybrid barrels
As pioneers in the use of hybrid barrels, made with American oak staves and French oak heads, their use lend our wines a unique personality.
